The environments we experience throughout life

Every day, people encounter a complex mixture of environmental factors: the air we breathe, the food we eat, chemicals, infections, occupational hazards, stress and changing lifestyles. Together, these exposures form what scientists call the exposome: the totality of environmental influences experienced throughout life.

Why study the exposome?

Exposome Africa is interested in how environmental exposures influence health, how they accumulate across a lifetime and how research can help guide prevention. This work brings together scientists, clinicians, public health practitioners, policymakers and communities.
